How Our Schizophrenia Care Works

She provides compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals across Massachusetts and Connecticut, with a focus on medication management and recovery-oriented support.

Her approach to psychosis care is patient and collaborative. She takes time to build trust, explains medication options clearly, monitors for side effects, and works with families and support teams to promote long-term stability. Common Questions About Schizophrenia Treatment

What medications are used to treat schizophrenia?

Antipsychotics are the mainstay of treatment. We offer both first-generation (haloperidol, perphenazine) and second-generation (risperidone, olanzapine, aripiprazole, paliperidone) options, including long-acting injectable formulations for adherence support.

Do I need to take medication forever?

Schizophrenia is a chronic condition, and long-term medication is usually necessary to prevent relapse. However, we aim for the lowest effective dose and monitor closely for side effects.

What about side effects like weight gain or movement problems?

We proactively monitor metabolic health (weight, blood sugar, cholesterol) and neurological side effects. We can adjust medications or add treatments to manage side effects.

Can therapy help along with medication?

Yes. Cognitive behavioral therapy for psychosis (CBTp), family therapy, and supportive therapy can help with symptom management, social functioning, and relapse prevention. We can coordinate with therapists.

Do you treat first-episode psychosis?
