Trauma-Informed Care

A Comprehensive Approach to PTSD

At Intra Health Services, we provide compassionate, evidence-based treatment for PTSD — a condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Our approach combines expert medication management with support for trauma-focused psychotherapies like EMDR, CPT, and prolonged exposure.

PTSD symptoms include intrusive memories, nightmares, hypervigilance, avoidance of triggers, and negative changes in mood and thinking. We take time to understand your unique trauma history and symptoms, then tailor treatment to help you reclaim your life.

What Our PTSD Care Includes

  • Trauma-informed diagnostic assessment to confirm PTSD and rule out other conditions
  • Personalized medication management (SSRIs — sertraline, paroxetine — and prazosin for nightmares)
  • Regular monitoring for symptom reduction, side effects, and sleep improvement
  • Psychoeducation about trauma responses and grounding techniques
  • Coordination with therapists trained in EMDR, CPT, or prolonged exposure

Our Process

How Our PTSD Care Works

Safe, supportive, and tailored — we help you heal at your own pace.

1

Initial evaluation (60-90 min) — trauma history, symptom assessment, and discussion of treatment goals in a safe environment.

2

Collaborative treatment planning — medication, therapy referrals (EMDR/CPT/PE), and coping strategies.

3

Ongoing follow-ups to adjust medications, track symptoms (nightmares, hyperarousal), and support your recovery.

FAQ

Common Questions About PTSD Treatment

What medications are used to treat PTSD?
SSRIs (sertraline, paroxetine) are first-line. Prazosin is highly effective for trauma-related nightmares. We may also consider other options based on your symptoms and history.
Do I need therapy along with medication?
Trauma-focused therapies like EMDR, CPT, and prolonged exposure are the most effective treatments for PTSD. Medication can reduce symptoms enough to engage in therapy. We strongly encourage both and can provide referrals.
How long does it take for PTSD medication to work?
SSRIs typically take 4-8 weeks to show significant benefit. Prazosin for nightmares may work more quickly, often within days to weeks. We monitor closely and adjust as needed.
Will I have to talk about my trauma in detail?
Not unless you choose to. Our medication-focused visits center on symptoms and treatment response, not rehashing trauma. We create a safe, paced environment.
Do you treat complex PTSD (C-PTSD)?
Yes, we have experience with prolonged or repeated trauma. We tailor care to your specific needs and can coordinate with specialist therapists.
