Expert OCD Treatment

A Comprehensive Approach to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

At Intra Health Services, we specialize in the treatment of OCD — a condition characterized by unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions). Our approach combines expert medication management with supportive therapy and practical tools to reduce symptoms and improve quality of life.

OCD manifests differently for everyone — from contamination fears and checking rituals to intrusive thoughts and symmetry concerns. We take time to understand your specific obsessions and compulsions, then tailor treatment to help you break the cycle.

What Our OCD Care Includes

  • Thorough diagnostic assessment to identify OCD subtypes and rule out related conditions
  • Personalized medication management (SSRIs at OCD-specific doses, clomipramine, augmentation strategies)
  • Regular monitoring for symptom reduction and side effects
  • Psychoeducation about OCD and strategies to reduce ritualizing
  • Coordination with therapists specializing in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

FAQ

Common Questions About OCD Treatment

What's the difference between OCD and normal worrying or habits?
OCD involves obsessions (unwanted, intrusive thoughts that cause distress) and compulsions (repetitive behaviors or mental acts to reduce anxiety). These take up significant time and interfere with daily life. We can help determine if your symptoms meet criteria for OCD.
What medications are used to treat OCD?
SSRIs (like fluoxetine, sertraline, fluvoxamine) at higher doses are first-line. Clomipramine is another effective option. We tailor medication to your symptoms and tolerance.
Do I need therapy along with medication?
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the gold-standard therapy for OCD. We strongly encourage ERP and can provide referrals to specialized therapists. Medication and ERP together are often more effective than either alone.
How long does it take for OCD medication to work?
OCD often requires higher doses and longer trials — typically 8-12 weeks at a therapeutic dose to see significant improvement. We monitor closely and adjust as needed.
Do you treat related conditions like body dysmorphic disorder or hoarding disorder?
Yes, we have experience with OCD-related disorders including body dysmorphic disorder, hoarding disorder, and trichotillomania. Please contact us to discuss.
