FAQ

Common Questions About Anxiety & Panic Treatment

What's the difference between anxiety and panic disorder?
Generalized anxiety involves persistent worry about many things. Panic disorder involves sudden, intense panic attacks with physical symptoms like racing heart, shortness of breath, and fear of losing control. We treat both and everything in between.
How quickly do anxiety medications work?
Some medications (like SSRIs) take 4-6 weeks for full effect. Others (like buspirone or as-needed anti-anxiety meds) may work sooner. We'll discuss timelines and manage expectations.
Do I have to take medication forever?
Not necessarily. Many people use medication for a period of time while learning coping skills, then taper off with their provider's guidance. Others benefit from longer-term maintenance. Your plan is personalized.
Can I do therapy instead of medication?
Yes, therapy (especially CBT) is highly effective for anxiety. We can provide therapy referrals or coordinate with your existing therapist. Some patients do both.
Do you treat social anxiety?
Yes, social anxiety is one of the most common conditions we treat. We offer medication management and supportive therapy for social anxiety.
